Help to support the Samaritans with their newly installed tap point at 37 Beak Street

This year  Samaritans are reminding people of the importance of checking in with others and supporting anyone who they think may be struggling during the coronavirus pandemic.

At a time when looking after our mental health and connecting with others is more important than ever, the Samaritans are sharing useful information to help people spot the signs that someone isn’t okay.

Central London Samaritans, based in Marshall Street, Soho, is the founding branch of the charity and the largest. They provide round the clock, non-judgmental emotional support for anyone who is struggling to cope. They listen, give people the time and space to work through their problems and find their own way forward. In the year 2018/19, their 400 Listening Volunteers responded to over 80,000 calls for help via phone, SMS and Email, supported over 4,000 contacts face to face, helped over 2,000 of London’s most vulnerable people. Their schools and university outreach programme raises awareness with young people and by working with businesses they are able to support and promote mental well-being in the workplace. The Samaritans have never closed their phone lines and until Covid-19 their door to their callers since opening in 1953. It costs nearly £400,000 per annum to keep their phones and their door open.

Anyone can contact Samaritans FREE any time from any phone on 116 123, even a mobile without credit. This number won’t show up on your phone bill. Or you can email jo@samaritans.org or visit www.samaritans.org/branches/central-london

Central London Samaritans is a charity and it’s the public’s kind donations and more than their 400 volunteers that mean they are always there for anyone struggling to cope. If you’d like to make a donation, please go to www.justgiving.com/samaritans-centrallondon.
