Record Store Day

Soho is a central hub for music & vinyl in London, with 4 record stores all within a mile of each other, it was the place to be on #RSD22.

Headphones on, a couple of taps, and your favourite artist is playing on a music streaming platform.

But let’s take a trip down memory lane to when it all started: back to the days of CDs, vinyls, records and cassettes. This year 23 April, let’s celebrate Record Store Day 2022, supported by BBC Sounds, together with some of the most renowned independent record stores in Soho.

Known as a district filled with rich music heritage and home to many independent record shops, Soho continues to honour and celebrate the unique identities of the music industry. The record shops in the area are gearing up for Record Store Day to bring you exclusive releases and exciting activations. Register to our newsletter or follow @ThisIsSoho so you’ll never miss out on exciting events and offers going on in bustling Soho!

The first stop we’re taking you to is  Sister Ray - located at 75 Berwick Street. Having a strong bond with a lot of “good folks” over the last 30 years, from the oldies such as The Bee Gees, The Clash and the Rolling Stones to new releases and exclusive albums, Sister Ray curates a varied, interesting and relevant inventory to offer their customers. This year, Sister Ray will be giving away goody bags, Meantime Beer and providing the best Record Store Day experience for their regular fans who queue around the block.

Reckless Records is going strong in the #recordsgame in not only London but also in Chicago. Reckless Records is located at 30 Berwick Street, at the heart of a thriving hub of independent music stores. If you’re after some deleted and hard-to-find CDs and vinyl, you’re in luck! Whether you are a vinyl enthusiast or a beginner, you’re always welcome to get expert advice and tips from the staff.

Sounds of the Universe is situated at 7 Broadwick Street, pride themselves on offering music lovers both limited and special new and original vinyl. In addition to records, you can also get your hands on a range of merchandise, from books and DVDs to bags and clothing.

Last but not least, another shining star of the record business in Soho, Phonica Records - located at 51 Poland Street - stocks a wide range of styles and genres: reggae / dub and nu jazz / broken beat to techno / minimal and funk / soul and many more. You can also find free in-store events as well as hosting nights across the capital.

There’s always something nostalgic about wandering around record shops, flipping through the records, holding a vinyl in your hand, turning it over and appreciating the cover art and liner notes. Why not come down to Soho and immerse yourself in the beautiful sound of a vinyl spinning on a finely calibrated record player.
